William Wells Brown, The Escape or Leap for Freedom (1858)

#OTD Jan 30, 1858: William Wells Brown's The Escape; or, A Leap for Freedom (1858), was published, The first play written by an African American. He escaped enslavement in 1834 and chose to remain in England when the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 was passed.
