Dr Edgar Newton Duncan, Surgeon General and Pharmacist

Dr Edgar Newton Duncan (Feb 1, 1932 - Dec 17, 2011). 1st pharmacist to be named surgeon general (1972). He was the 1st Black graduate of Duquesne University’s School of Pharmacy. He was also the 1st Black student to earn a Master’s degree in hygiene from the University of Pittsburgh’sGraduate School of Public Health. Dr Duncan later served as Associate Dean of the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public Health.
