Barbara Jordan joined the ancestors (Feb 21, 1936 - Jan 17, 1996). Lawyer, educator, politician. 1st African American elected to the Texas Senate after Reconstruction,[2] the first Southern Black woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, 1 of the 1st 2 African Americans elected to the U.S. House from the former Confederacy since 1901, alongside Andrew Young of Georgia.
