Sadie Tanner Mossell Alexander (Jan 2, 1898 - Nov 1, 1989). Pioneering Black professional, civil rights activist of the early-to-mid-20th century. She was the 2nd Black woman to receive a Ph.D (1921) and 1st one to receive one in economics. She was also the 1st Black woman to receive a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School (1927) and became the 1st Black woman to practice law in the state. She was also the 1st national president of Delta Sigma Theta sorority, serving from 1919 to 1923.
