Saladin Muhammad was a noted Labor Organizer and Civil Rights Activist. He was a longtime organizer for the United Electrical Workers (UE) and founder of the Southern Workers Assembly and Black Workers for Justice. Saladin focused his efforts on organizing workers in the South, where antiunion sentiment is hampered by right to work laws and where organizers have failed to adequate connect labor and racial issues. The recent unsuccessful attempts to unionize Volkswagon and Nissan plants in Chattanooga, Tennessee and Clanton, Mississippi speaks to efforts to unionize core industries in the South. Muhammad devoted his life to organizing Black workers
