Dr.  Samuel Milton Nabrit, U.S. Atomic Energy Commission

Jun 18, 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson appointed Dr. Samuel Milton Nabrit to the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. The first African American to serve in this role. Nabrit was also the first African American to receive a doctoral degree from Brown University. He served as the second of Texas Southern University from 1955-1966.
