#OTD Apr 19, 1775: The Battles of Lexington and Concord marked the start of the American Revolutionary War. While the day began with a colonial retreat at Lexington Common, the engagement at Concord was a major turning point where the American militia, with the assistance of Black soldiers, including Prince Estabrook, who was wounded on Lexington Green and Peter Salem, who would later gain fame at Bunker Hill, forced a British retreat for the 1st time.. Their presence at the "shot heard 'round the world" highlights that from the very 1st hour, the fight for American independence was a multi-racial effort.
