OTD Apr 18, 1983: Author Alice Walker wins Pulitzer Prize for her novel ‘The Color Purple’. 10 days later the novel will win the American Book Award for Fiction and was subsequently adapted into an Academy Award­–nominated film starring Whoopi Goldberg and Danny Glover.
