Gladys Knight "Empress of Soul" Celebrates her 80th birthday
Gladys Knight is known as the "Empress of Soul." Her performances with The Pips in the 1970's and 80's earned her critical acclaim with signature hits such as "Midnight Train to Georgia" and "Save the Overtime for Me."
Maya Angelou, writer and poet, died on May 28th 2014.
Maya Angelou, critically acclaimed writer and poet, whose famous autobiographical story I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and her poem "I Rise" died 10 years ago. Her legacy as a witer, poet and civil rights worker continue to inspire many people today.
Gary Conille is selected as the acting Prime Minister of Haiti
Gary Conille, a member of the provisional council, has been selected as Prime Minister of Haiti. Conille has medical training and holds a PhD in Medicine from the University of Haiti. He has served in various capacities with the United Nations, primarily on public health projects in Haiti and more than a dozen African countries. Conille had an earlier stint as Prime Minister from 2011-2012. He resigned after a vote of no-confidence by the country's ministers.
Arsenio Hall Show aired for the last time on May 27, 1994.
Arsenio Hall, comedian and talk show host, hosted the Arsenio Hall show, which was the first late night talk show hosted by an African American. The show ran for six seasons and produced 1406 episodes.
