It is important to turn historical anniversary dates into a time for serious reflection. The hundred year anniversary of Malcolm X's birth is next year, 2025. He is a seminal figure in Black history, and is a major reason why we have Black Studies today. This is a proposal for joining all of us in a common discussion to review his life, and his relevance for us today.
We are forming a committee to advance this work and would like to include you, all of you who want to be involved. Reply to my email and I'll get back to you to hook you up. mcworter@illinois.edu
We join with many others who have been keeping his memory alive: https://alkalimat.org/writings.html#3malcolm https://www.alkalimat.org/462%20Black_Liberation_Month_News_1985.pdf
Can we prepare for 2025 by endorsing this proposal: Malcolm X 100 for the 100th
Proposal: Every Black Studies Program to hold an event that discusses and celebrates the life and activities of Malcolm X
Proposal: Every Black Studies journal do a special issue on Malcolm X
Proposal: Every Black Studies organization do a plenary session on Malcolm X
Proposal: Every online scholar-activist to plan a special program on Malcolm X
Now is the time to revisit the one who helped launch us into Black Studies.
