#OTD Dr Ossian Sweet (Oct 30, 1895 - Mar 20, 1960). Prominent Black physician in Detroit, MI. He is known for being charged with murder in 1925 after he and his friends used armed self-defense against a hostile white mob protesting after Dr Sweet moved into their all-white neighborhood. Stones were thrown at his house, breaking windows. Shots were fired and one white man was killed and another wounded. Dr Sweet, his wife and 9 associates at the house (including 2 brothers) were all arrested and charged with murder. They would eventually be found innocent by an all-white jury.
