Lynching is one of the most heinous and horrific displays of imhumanity. Although lynching was commonplace in the country from the late 19th century up through 1960, Black people always resisted it. They wrote, sang, designed legislatation to stop it, led campaigns to change public opinion and physically resisted it at every turn. Two of the most important anti-lynching crusaders were Ida B. Wells, the fearless journalist who journalism and book production on these issues galvinized public national and international attention. The second was Walter White, filed secretary for the NAACP under Executive Director James Weldon Johnson, worked as an undercover investigator and passed as white to investigate lynchings across the country.
