On March 27th 2020, Joseph Lowery joined the ancestors (Oct 6, 1921 - Mar 27, 2020). Minister in the United Methodist Church and leader in the civil rights movement. He founded the SCLC with Martin Luther King Jr et al, serving as its VP, later chairman of the board, and its 3rd prez from 1977 to 1997. He participated in most of the major activities of the civil rights movement in the 1950s and ‘60s, and continued his civil rights work into the 21st century. He was called the "Dean of the Civil Rights Movement”.
