John La Rose (1927-2006) was a political and cultural activist. He was born in Trinidad and Tobago. LaRose was the founder of New Beacon Books, the first publishing company in Great Britain specializing in Caribbean concerns. He served as Chairman of the George Padmore Institute. La rose was also actively involved in the independence struggles in the Caribbean in the 1940's and 1960's.
