Harry Belfonte (1927-2023) was a well-known African American singer, activist and entertainer. He received an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards. Belafonte is best known as a singer and performer. His performances of" Day-O (The Banana Boat)," "Jump in the Line (Shake, Senora)," "Jamaica Farewell," and "Mary's Boy Child." He also performed in a number of films ranging from Carmen Jones (1954) to Spike Lee's BlackkKlansman (2018). Belafonte is probably best known for his participation in the Civil Rights Movement. He was close friend of Paul Robeson and later Martin Luther King. He was active in politics from the 1960s up through the 21st century. He died of congestive heart failure in New York City on April 25th 2023.
