OTD Clive Campbell (Apr 16, 1955). Better known by his stage name “DJ Kool Herc”. Jamaican American DJ credited with being the founder of hip-hop music in the Bronx, NYC, in 1973. Hip hop music is widely considered to have been founded with a back-to-school party organized by Cindy Campbell and her brother DJ Kool Herc. Kool Herc's innovative use of two turntables to extend the "break" sections of songs is credited as the genesis of hip hop.
