On 1 April 1998, Christopher Alder, a Black British man of Nigerian descent, died face-down on a police station floor in Hull, UK.

Following an assault outside a nightclub, Alder was taken to hospital and treated for a head injury before being taken to the police station where he was left, handcuffed and unconscious, on the floor during which time officers were recorded making monkey noises over his unconscious body. No attempt was made to examine him until he was said to be making no noise.

A post mortem indicated the earlier head injury alone would not have killed him but all his clothes were subsequently destroyed by a West Yorkshire Police team investigating the death and never subjected to forensic examination.

A verdict of unlawful killing was made in 2000 but no officers were ever found guilty.
