On 10 July 1981, rioting broke out in Brixton, south London, an area known for police harassment of the Black population, following the arrest of a Rastafarian, as well as a popular DJ who was arrested as well when he tried to intervene during the first arrest. Large crowds set up barricades and overturned police cars.
