Jun 6, 1944: D-Day: the 320th Negro Anti-Aircraft Barrage Balloon Battalion, 621 Black soldiers, were the 1st unit to storm the beach at Normandy, France. They erected hydrogen-filled balloons to protect soldiers from enemy aircraft.
