This informational blog focuses on the role of Black Women in the Black Panther. Viewed as a largely male organization, the Black Panther Party. was founded by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale in Oakland, California in 1965. From the outset Black women played important roles in the movement. They were at the center of the organization's social, political, economic and cultural work. Women such as Kathleen Cleaver, Angela Davis, Erika Huggins, Lynn French, Barbara Cox Easley and Elaine Brown were major figures in the organization an assumed major leader roles.
