Sept 4, 1781: Los Angeles, California, then known as Los Pobladores, was founded by 44 Hispanic men, women and children of Native American, African and European descent. Of the settlers, 26 were to some degree of African descent. Today the site of the original settlement is preserved as the ‘El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument’ and the famous Olvera Street.
