On June 29th 1941, Stokely Carmichael was born. Carmichael, a native of Trinidad and Tobago, attended and graduated from Howard University. He was one of the founding members of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). By the mid-1960's, Carmichael became increasingly disenchanted with nonviolence and began to advocate Black Power. He subsequently became a leader in the Black Panther Power and the All African People's Revolutionary Party. He co-authored Black Power: The Politics of Liberation in Black America with Charles V. Hamilton in 1968. Carmichael eventually changed his name to Kwame Ture and moved to Guinea
