St. Clair Drake, Anthropologist and Sociologist

St Clair Drake (Jan 2, 1911 - Jun 15, 1990). Sociologist, anthropologist, author, whose scholarship and activism led him to document much of the social turmoil, challenges and achievements in race relations of the 1960s. He was one of the 1st Black faculty members at Roosevelt University in Chicago, where he taught for 23yrs before leaving to found the African and African American Studies program at Stanford University. He also contributed to the independence movement in Ghana.
