Revolts and resistance to slavery by enslaved people was a reoccuring and constant fixture during the Transatlantic Slave Trade and the period of legalized slavery in North America, which ended in 1865. Thousands of slave revolts, small and large, took place during the Age of Slavery. Some of the most notable revolts in North America included the Stono Rebellion (1739), Gabriel Prosser Rebellion (1800), the Denmark Vesey Revolt (1822), and the Nat Turner Rebellion (1831). One of the most famous shipboard rebelllions was the Amistad Revolt (1839). It is important to realize that revolts not only occurred in North America but around the world including South and Central America and the Caribbean. The most signifciant revolt in the Caribbean was the Haitian Revolution, 1791-1804. Below please find an informational blog that provides information about slave revolts.
