Dr. Mustafa Santiago Ali is the Executive Vice President of Conservation & Justice for the National Wildlife Federation (NWF), former Interim Chief of Programs at the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), and Instructor at American University. He is the Founder and CEO of Revitalization Strategies. He also serves as a commissioner for The American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AAAS). He is an award-winning writer and poet focused on social justice. Dr. Ali is frequently seen on television, including appearances on MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, VICE, FUSE, BET, National Geographic, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, and Democracy NOW! they scream in shadows, spit smoke from throats / barely human, their anger like barbed wire coats / they bash what they’ll never be: bright, free, or true / she’s the drum in the distance, the hum breaking through /
Kamala, crown of justice, walks with her ancestors’ pride / each footstep a sermon, each word turns the tide / they bark at her power, try to clip her wings / but she soars like a whisper, makes the hollow things sing /
she’s the crack in the concrete where roses rebel / the dream that keeps pushing when they’re wishing her hell / Trump’s bitter choir can’t touch her fire or calm / her heart beats louder, a lyrical psalm /
she listens with purpose, moves mountains with might / they hate her for her shine, but she just turns up the light / gets things done while they fumble and fake / she’s the hand that builds, the truth that won’t break.
