

#OTD Oct 28, 1873: Patrick Healy was named president of Georgetown University, the oldest Catholic University in the U.S. Although he was accepted as and identified as Irish-American during his lifetime, in the 1960s the history of Healy's mixed-race ancestry became more widely known. He was recognized as the 1st Black person to earn a PhD, 1st to become a Jesuit priest; and 1st to be president of Georgetown University or any predominantly white college.
