African American Studies continues to grow and thrive. It is a vibrant interdisciplinary discipline that draws on traditional academic disciplines as well as newer areas of study including African Diaspora, gender and ethnic studies, science and technology as well as global and transnational studies. The expansion of the discipline is not simply departmentally based, but also includes manuscript and photo collections as well as bibliographies and online syllabi, which provide important commentary on issues of important to African descended populations around the world.
