Sept 26, 2006: 2nd Lieutenant Emily Perez, the highest-ranking Black and Hispanic female cadet in corps' history. Perez, 23, was buried at West Point military academy 2 weeks after she was killed while patrolling southern Iraq near Najaf on Sept. 12 when a roadside bomb exploded under her Humvee.
