On 15 July 1969 Black Panthers Kathleen and Eldridge Cleaver arrived in Algiers at the invitation of the Algerian government. Eldridge was wanted in the US after jumping bail following a clash with police in Oakland in 1968. In Algiers, they lived at 9 Rue du Traité with their two children.
