John H. Johnson joined the ancestors (Jan 19, 1918 - Aug 8, 2005). Founder of the Johnson Publishing Company (1942). Headquartered in Chicago, IL, his company, with its creation of Ebony (1945) and Jet (1951) magazines, was among the most influential Black-owned business in media in the 2nd half of the 20th century, peaking at 9 million subscribers. In 1982 he became the 1st African American to appear on the Forbes 400.
