Several HBCU players received offers from the Canadian Football League. Currently 26 HBCU players are on the CFL roster. Initially, Black players pursued opportunities in the CFL beginning in 1935 that were not available in the NFL. However, their were no Blacks on Canadian teams until 1946. The CFL also inducted Black players into their Hall of Fame, hired Black coaches , quarterbacks and general managers and commissioners before the NFL.
