


On 9 December 2010, inmates at six prisons throughout the state of Georgia began a one day strike. Their nine demands included an end to unpaid labour, improvements in conditions within the prisons and the creation of educational programmes. The inmates suffered severe violent repression at the hands of the guards and were ignored by much of the mainstream media, despite organising the largest and most widespread act of resistance by prisoners in the United States at the time.
