Faith Ringgold (Oct 8, 1930 - Apr 13, 2024). Painter, author, mixed media sculptor, performance artist, intersectional activist, perhaps best known for her narrative quilts. Ms Ringgold taught art for about 15yrs in NYC before establishing herself as a full-time artist. She began a series of painted story quilts in the 1970s, often collaborating with her mother, Willie Jones, a Harlem clothing designer and seamstress. Many of her quilts went on to inspire the children's books that she later made. She also participated in and founded a number of Black feminist organizations. #FaithRinggold #Quilts #BlackArt
