Jazz is America's foundational music. It orginated in the African American communites in Lousiana, namely New Orleans, Louisiana. This musical form, which emerged in the late 19th and erly 20th centuries is rooted in blues, ragtime, European harmony, sprituals, hymns, marches, and vaudeville song.
