Camilla Masssacre, 1868

On 19 September 1868, the Camilla massacre took place in Georgia, US.

Several hundred Black Republicans had marched in protest at Black and biracial elected representatives in the state legislature being expelled. White racists opened fire, killing around 12 and wounding more.

The massacre was only eventually acknowledged by the town in 1998.
