Buck Colbert Franklin, Attorney

September 25, 1960. Buck Colbert Franklin died. Buck Colbert was an attorney. He was the son of David Franklin, an enslaved father who escaped slavery and fought for the Union Army, and Minnie Colbert, a one-fourth Choctaw Native American . David became a successful rancher and eventually owned a 300 acre ranch.

Buck Colbert was educated at the Dawes Academy and eventually matriculated at Roger Williams University in Nashville. He subsequently transferred to Atlanta Baptist College (Morehouse College). Buck eventually became a lawyer and defended those impacted by the Tulsa Race Riot in 1921 He is the father of noted historian John Hope Franklin.
