The recent debates over the importance and validity of Black Studies in Florida have dominated the headlines. A similar situation has emerged in Great Britain. The University of Chichester has voted to eliminated it MRes History of Africa and the African Diaspora program. The prominient Africanist and one of the few Black professors of history Dr. Hakim Adi have spoken out against thes changes. Blacks make up less than one percent of the professoriate in Great Britain. A petition has been launched, an open letter sent to the university, and Adi is being widely interviewed to bring attention to this situation.
