Photography is an important medium for the presentation of Black life in America and throughout the African Diaspora. Despite systemic racism and a geeral neglect by majoratrian institutions in collecting and preserving the work of Black photographers, we nonetheless have a rich archive. Photographers such as James Van Der Zee, Morgan and Marvin Smith, Tiffany Sutton and Dawn Bangi have made untold contributions to black photography.
