Jun 28, 1927: 1927: Businessman, publisher Anthony Overton made history by becoming the 1st entrepreneur to receive the NAACP's prestigious Spingarn Medal “for his successful business career climaxed by admission of his company as the first Negro organization permitted to do business under the rigid requirements of the State of New York. Overton was Prez of Victory Life Insurance Company.
